The investigation was launched after the Danbury Police Department received several complaints that Ramon Monroig, 40, was a drug trafficker, police said.

Police were able to obtain search warrants for a home at 16 Cornell Road in Danbury and at 11 Old Turnpike Road in Brookfield, as well as for several vehicles owned by Monroig, police said.

On Tuesday, officers stopped Monroig on Skyline Terrace, seized a substantial amount of both marijuana and cocaine, and arrested Monroig, police said.

After the arrest, officers proceeded to the two homes and vehicles, police said. The search turned up evidence that Monroig possessed additional drugs in the Danbury residence, as well as an assault rifle, a pistol, ammunition and illegal high-capacity magazines for the assault rifle, police said.

Monroig was held on $100,000 bond. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession greater than 1 ounce, possession of a firearm, criminal possession of ammunition by a felon, risk of injury to a child and possession of a high-capacity magazine.

For the case, the Danbury Police Department set up a special investigative unit, including the Special Investigations Division, Community Conditions Unit, General Investigations, the Brookfield Police Department and the FBI, to investigate the complaints using surveillance and other techniques.
