Two young girls made the grim discovery when they spotted the body floating at the edge of the water just steps away from beach houses in the area about 2:15 p.m., police said.

By 4:30 p.m., Fairfield officers were on the scene waiting for representatives from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to retrieve the body, which was lying under a tarp.

Police did not release the name of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.

But back on Sunday, June 12, crews from the U.S. Coast Guard were searching the water for a man they had identified as Shigemune Mori, 32, who was last seen in the water with no lifejacket after he was tossed from an inflatable kayak on a windy afternoon.

Another man who was on the 14-foot inflatable raft with Mori had managed to swim safely to shore after it capsized off Seaside Park.

The searched continued for a couple of days, with help from members of U.S.Coast Guard Station New Haven, the Bridgeport Police Department, Fairfield Police Department, Suffolk County Police Department, Stratford Fire Department and U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod.

NBC Connecticut reported the man was a student at the University of Bridgeport.
