About 200 Volunteers In Search For Ridgefield Runner

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – Around 200 civilian volunteers were at Ridgefield's Branchville Elementary School on Sunday at 9 a.m. to assist in the search for a missing runner.

The town asked that residents wait until 10 a.m. before going to assist in the search for David Riek, said Ridgefield Fire Chief Heather Burford.

Any resident who wants to volunteer should go to the Branchville School at 40 Florida Road to sign in and receive an assignment, Burford said.

Riek is a 44-year-old bald, white male around 6 feet tall. He was reported missing after he failed to return home at around 8:30 a.m. Saturday from his early morning run. Riek is a long distance runner.

Volunteers should also wear proper attire for walking through the woods and, if they can, bring a walking stick to help since there will be searches through high grass.

Burford said that Riek does not have his cellphone or any identification on him and he is believed to have been wearing a white t-shirt and black shorts.

If anyone has any information they are encouraged to call the Police department at 203-31-6531.
