Shirley Farr, 80, Formerly Of Ridgefield

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – Shirley M. Farr of New Milford and formerly of Ridgefield died Sept. 2 at Danbury Hospital surrounded by her family. She was 80.

Born July 7, 1932 and raised in Magna, Utah, she was the daughter of Thomas W. and Maudest Nielsen Shaw. She attended local schools. She married Charles B.  Farr, who was a member of the military. They lived in many parts of the U.S. due to his military and work assignments.

Farr was a resident of Ridgefield from 1970 to 1993, coming from Brookfield, Wis. She worked at Ridgefield Montessori School for many years. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Ridgefield. At the church, she was a member of the Women's Fellowship and was a Sunday school instructor. She was also a member of the Church World Services organization.

A resident of New Milford for the past 19 years, she enjoyed traveling and spending summers in Maine. She also spent many hours raising funds for the National Kidney Foundation. She most enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Farr is survived by three sons, Rick (Debbie) Farr, of Oak Point, Texas, David (Diane) Farr, of Ridgefield and Thomas (Lily) Farr, of Glendora, Calif.; two daughters, Sandy Farr, of New Milford and Linda (Farr) Bratten, of Waterbury, Conn.; five grandchildren and many cousins, nephews and nieces.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charlie, three brothers, a sister and a grandson, Christopher Bratten.

Calling hours are from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, followed immediately by funeral services at First Congregational Church in Ridgefield, with the Rev. Charles Hambrick-Stowe officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Ridgefield. Kane Funeral Home in Ridgefield is handling arrangements.
