Robert C. Whitford, 88, Of Ridgefield, Retired NYC Taxi Driver

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. - Robert C. Whitford of Ridgefield, formerly of Brookfield, died Tuesday, April 22. He was 88

Whitford was born May 25, 1925, in the Bronx, N.Y., and was the son of William and Frances (Domzelski) Whitford. He attended Bronx schools and served with the U.S. Merchant Marines. A retired New York City taxi driver, he resided in Ridgefield for the past 10 years. He previously lived in Brookfield and the Bronx. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish of Ridgefield.

Whitford is survived by his daughters, Maryrose Escaravage (James) of New Fairfield and Angela Whitford (Stan) Madaloni of Ridgefield; son, Patrick Whitford (Lori) of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren; “other” children, Michael Sampey and his partner, Cecilio Carazana of West New York, NJ and Kathleen Sampey (Michael) Gallo of Riverdale, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen (O’Haire) Whitford; parents; three brothers; and two sisters.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 26 at 2 p.m. in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 520 Ridgebury Road, Ridgefield with Fr. Joseph Prince, officiating. Interment will be private.
