Rita Horan Specht, 91, Ridgefield Resident

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – Rita Horan Specht, a 44-year resident of Ridgefield, died Monday, April 11 at Laurel Ridge Health Care Center in Ridgefield. She was 91.

She was born March 1, 1925, in Port Chester. She was a 1947 graduate of the College of New Rochelle with a bachelor’s degree in arts and sciences. Subsequently, she worked for Beardsley Ruml, an economist in New York City, for Teleregister Corp. in Stamford and as an executive secretary at Boehringer Ingelheim in Ridgefield.

Following retirement, she volunteered to edit books for the blind at the Ridgefield Library, as well as being an ardent homemaker. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Prime Timers in Ridgefield.

Surviving is her husband of 57 years, Ralph B. Specht, of Ridgefield; two stepchildren, Michael B. Specht of Johnstown, Pa. and his children, Gregory, Stephanie and Susan and Robert C. Specht and his wife, Barbra A. (Deveney) of Dover, Pa. and their children, Andrew and Jesse; three children, Marilyn A. Adusei-Poku and her husband, Kwadjo S. and their children, Christopher and Daniel, all of Dhahran, Saudia Arabia; Sharon E. Denny and her husband, James S. and their children, Claire and Matthew, all of Havertown, Pa.; and John W. Specht and his wife, Shani Burke Specht, and their children, Henry and Johanna of Bethel.

She was predeceased by her parents, John J. Horan and Mary T. (Flynn) Horan and infant sister, Dorothy, all of Port Chester; and daughter-in-law, Debra A. (Rizzo) Specht.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Seton Roman Catholic Church, 520 Ridgebury Road, Ridgefield. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Rye Brook, N.Y.
