John Klinkowize Jr., 78, Ridgefield Resident

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – John Klinkowize Jr., of Ridgefield, died Saturday, April 9 after a battle with cancer. He was 78.

He was the husband of the late Jean B. (Gerstenkorn) Klinkowize. He was born March 1, 1938, in Washingtonville, N.Y., the son of the late John and Helen (Solanka) Klinkowize. He graduated from Washingtonville High School and entered the U.S. Air Force after marrying his sweetheart, Jean. After being discharged from the Air Force, he moved to Pelham Manor, N.Y. to begin his family and new career as a commercial display manufacturer. 

A Ridgefield resident the past nine years, he previously resided in Hampstead, N.C. and Sarasota, Fla. After moving to Florida, he and his wife established the Brittany-Lore Galleries, where they worked in the art/framing business for a number of years. Eventually they moved to Hampstead in the same state where their marriage began. All their moving culminated in a move to Ridgefield. He was an avid golfer. He also spent time coaching baseball and speed skating. His role as a coach and mentor were an especially important role in his life. He and his wife were the rescuers of many animals throughout their lifetime.

He is survived by his son, Ronald Klinkowize, and his wife, Donna, of Ridgefield; his daughter, Laura Kirchner, and her husband, Steven, of Ridgefield; five grandchildren, Spencer, Makena, Emma, Peter and Jack; and a sister, Carole Thalman, of Forest Grove, Ore..

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Jean; and his son, Peter.

Interment will be private and at the direction of the family. There will be no calling hours.
