Ann Hastings, 78, of Ridgefield, Former Nurse

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – Ann Wade Hastings, a former Ridgefield resident, died June 11 at Danbury Hospital. She was 78.

Hastings was born July 25, 1933, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to William and Julia Powe Wade. She graduated from St. Francis Xavier Academy and Kings County Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn.

While working as a registered nurse, she met her husband, Raymond Hastings, on a blind date. They were married on Sept. 3, 1955, in Brooklyn. They moved to Ridgefield in 1962, where they raised five sons.

Hastings was both an active volunteer for the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association and a member of its board of incorporators. She also volunteered for the American Cancer Society and Meals on Wheels.

She taught religious education at Sacred Heart Parish in Georgetown and St. Mary Parish in Ridgefield. Along with her husband and sons, Hastings was a founding member of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish of Ridgefield. She remained in Ridgefield until she retired to Danbury with her husband in 1995.

Hastings is survived by her husband, Raymond; five sons, Richard (Diana), Michael (Dalva), Timothy, Terrance and Jamie; a brother, William Wade; two sisters, Mary Badame and Madeline Rodgers; 12 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Thursday at St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Ridgefield, followed by burial in St. Mary Cemetery in Ridgefield. Kane Funeral Home in Ridgefield was in charge of arrangements.
