Wind Advisory Issued As Power Outages Continue To Plague Ridgefield

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Utility crews worked throughout the day in Fairfield County Thursday to repair downed wires and outages, but hundreds were still left without power in the afternoon.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory, which remains in effect until 6 p.m. Gusts of up to 40 mph have knocked down tree limbs and wires throughout the county, leading to widespread outages.

Eversource reported the following outages throughout the county, as of 3:30 p.m.:

  • Bethel: 3 customers
  • Brookfield: 115 customers
  • Danbury: 3 customers
  • Darien: 0 customers
  • Greenwich: 72 customers
  • Monroe: 250 customers
  • New Canaan: 161 customers
  • New Fairfield: 118 customers
  • Newtown: 25 customers
  • Norwalk: 98 customers
  • Redding: 5 customers
  • Ridgefield: 38 customers
  • Sherman: 75 customers
  • Stamford: 16 customers
  • Weston: 162 customers
  • Westport: 43 customers
  • Wilton: 80 customers

United Illuminating reported the following outages: 

  • Bridgeport: 163 customers
  • Easton: 5 customers
  • Fairfield: 169 customers
  • Shelton: 110 customers
  • Stratford: 22 customers
  • Trumbull: 2 customers

The National Weather Service warns that strong winds may continue to knock down some tree limbs and power lines. It also cautions that recent dry conditions and relatively low humidity, combined with the winds, could enhance the threat of brush fires.
