RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – This year, our nation’s birthday falls mid-week and surrounding it are all kinds of happenings from the government meetings to fireworks. Here are some of the events for July 2 to 5:

Monday, July 2

Free Blood Pressure Screening: 9:30 to 11 a.m. The Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association is offering free blood pressure screenings for all who attend. Ballard Green Community Building, 25 Gilbert Street, Ridgefield.

Drop-In Story time: 10:30 to 11 a.m. Children ages 3 and up are invited for stories, songs and a short book-based film. No Registration needed. Ridgefield Library, 472 Main Street, Ridgefield.

Tuesday, July 3

Ridgefield Arts Council Meeting: 7:30 to 9 p.m. The Ridgefield Arts Council is meeting for their regular meeting. Town Hall Small Conference Room, 440 Main Street, Ridgefield.

Non-Fiction Book Group: 7 to 9 p.m. The Nonfictioneers are meeting to discuss “Napoleon: A Life” by Paul Johnson as a part of their regular series. Ridgefield Library, 472 Main Street, Ridgefield.

The Wiyos Concert: 7 to 9 p.m. As a part of the summer concert series at Ballard Park, the group The Wiyos will be performing. Ballard Park, Main Street, Ridgefield.

Ask Me! Docent-Led Museum Tour: 2 to 3 p.m. Participate in a docent-led tour of one of the current exhibitions from 2 to 3 pm. The docent will draw connections between this artist’s work and the other exhibitions. The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, 258 Main St., Ridgefield.

Wednesday, July 4

Residents are reminded that the library and town offices are closed for the Fourth of July.

Annual Fourth Fireworks: All Day. Don't Miss this Annual Celebration on the grounds of Ridgefield High School. Pack a picnic dinner and join family and friends for this spectacular Fireworks Display. Parking passes may be required. There is a rain date of Saturday, July 7, 2012. Ridgefield High School, 700 North Salem Road, Ridgefield.

Thursday, July 5

Murder by the Book: 10 a.m. to noon. The Ridgefield Library’s “Murder by the Book” group will be discussing Anne Perry’s “The Cater Street Hangman.” Perry’s Victorian mysteries feature violent crime, societal malaise and a husband-and wife sleuthing teams is the first entry in the long-running Thomas and Charlotte Pitt series. Ridgefield Library, 472 Main Street, Ridgefield.

Sierra Hull Concert: 7 to 9 p.m. A part of the summer concert series at Ballard Park, the group Sierra Hull will be performing. Ballard Park, Main Street, Ridgefield.
