RIDGEFIELD, Conn. The band that brought you Low Rider is coming to Ridgefield July 18 to play at the Ridgefield Playhouse.
As a part of the Guiness Black Lager Rock Series, War will perform its combination of jazz, rock, funk, soul, R&B and Latin music with special guest jazz pianist David Morgan.
Hailing from California and originally called Eric Burdon and War, the band started out in 1969 and has transcended racial and cultural barriers with a multi-ethnic line-up, style and sound. Its 50 million records sold to date would suggest its longevity on the music scene is due to its universal appeal.
Although War's lyrics are often socio-political in nature, its music also is very danceable. It features harmonica and saxophone melody lines in unison, sounding like a single instrument, for example in the melody of "Low Rider." War released a Greatest Hits Live CD in 2008.
