Two Ridgefield College Students Killed In Plane Crash Near Colgate

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. — Two teenagers from Ridgefield who attend Colgate University were killed in a plane crash Sunday in Morrisville, N.Y., after taking off from Hamilton Municipal Airport near the campus, the college said on its website.

The two teenagers killed were both freshmen: Cathryn (Carey) Depuy and Ryan Adams, 

A community vigil will be held at Colgate Memorial Chapel at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the college.

Sheriff Allen Riley told WSYR-TV that the plane sent a distress call before it went down.

The aircraft was a single-engine Cessna plane that the two had rented from the airport, WSYR-TV said.

The Federal Aviation Administration is expected to arrive Monday morning to investigate, according to Syracuse.com

The victims were taken to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office in Syracuse, where autopsies will be performed, Undersheriff John Ball told Syracuse.com. 

The university is offering counseling. Some campus events on Monday have been postponed or cancelled. A community vigil has been scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday at Colgate Memorial Chapel.
