Whether you are a regular rider of Metro-North or just grab the train on occasion, it's time to check the schedules for changes.

New timetables are going into effect Sunday for the New Haven, Hudson and Harlem Lines.

The new timetables make adjustments that restore some trains while allowing critical rail work that improves the safety and reliability of service, Metro-North said.

Here are some of the changes on the three lines:

On the New Haven Line

Schedule changes are designed to reduce delays at intermediate stations in Connecticut and New York, and reflect slower operating speeds where construction projects are in progress.

Slower speeds are required when changing tracks and for worker safety. A total of 16 New Haven-bound trains operating between 7:30 a.m. and 3:05 p.m. have their schedules adjusted by 1 to 3 minutes.

On the Harlem Line

The AM and PM peak service returns to pre-June 4 schedules thanks to the completion of a comprehensive track-improvement program between Mount Vernon West and Crestwood, providing a 1 to 6 minute reduction in trip time for 32 trains.

Eight mid-day trains toward White Plains and Southeast will depart Grand Central 3 minutes earlier.

On the Hudson Line

On weekdays, four AM peak trains departing Croton-Harmon (5:15 a.m., 5:40 a.m., 6:37 a.m. and 8:12 a.m.) will operate 1 minute earlier from Croton-Harmon through Hastings-on-Hudson.

In the PM peak, the 6:59 p.m. and 7:21 p.m. trains from Grand Central revert to their normal schedules, with the 6:59 p.m. departing at 6:55 p.m., 4 minutes earlier, and the 7:21 p.m. stopping 4 minutes earlier at stations from Croton-Harmon through Poughkeepsie.

On weekends, Poughkeepsie-bound trains return to their pre-April 2 schedules with the completion of track work occurring between Cold Spring and Beacon, which translates to a savings of 8 to 12 minutes on each trip.

New timetables will be available in Grand Central and at outlying stations; online and via the Metro-North Train Time app for iPhone or Android.
