Anne McDermott of Topstone Drive heard the noise at 11:30 p.m. and found the bear eating from a bag of birdseed, the Press said. McDermott called the police, who notified the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, but the bear had left the scene before they arrived, the Ridgefield Press reported.
Officials said the bear had likely woken up from hibernation early due to the mild winter, the Ridgefield Press said.
