RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- Ridgefield has been named the safest place in the country to live in a recent ranking by the website NeighborhoodScout.
In its annual 100 Safest Cities in America list, NeighborhoodScout reports that with an annual crime rate of 2.62 crimes per 1,000 residents, Ridgefield is safer than 97 percent of the cities in the United States. The ranking analyzes crime statistics from the FBI and compares communities with populations of 25,000 or more people.
"If you are looking for a community that has low crime, you need look no further than Ridgefield. With an annual crime rate of only 3 per one thousand people, the chance of becoming a victim of crime here is just 1 in 382," NeighborhoodScout wrote in its analysis . "These crime statistics put Ridgefield in the elite group of the safest communities in both Connecticut and in the nation as a whole."
NeighborhoodScout found that residents of Ridgefield are much less likely to become victims of both violent and property crime than most other places in the country. In its description of Ridgefield, NeighborhoodScout classified it as "a decidedly white-collar town," with 92.29 percent of the workforce employed in white-collar professions.
"Overall, Ridgefield is a town of managers, professionals and sales and office workers," the website said. "Of important note, Ridgefield is also a town of artists. Ridgefield has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90 percent of the communities in america. This concentration of artists helps shape Ridgefield's character."
The site also points to the high education level and the quality of schools in the community.
