Residents can clearly see the old historic library as well as the state-of-the-art expansion. When the library reopens next month, visitors will be able enter through the historic EW Morris building in front with the green roof.

Passersby can check out the interior as new shelves and other details as the interior finishing work is completed.

The opening weekend for the new Ridgefield Library is set for May 9 to 11, said Peter Coffin, chairman of the Ridgefield Library board of directors.

The weekend will feature a ribbon cutting, dedications and festivities and events.

"It has been more than 10 years in the works, and has taken the generosity and hard work of nearly 1,300 people to bring to fruition, but the time is finally here," said Coffin.

"We invite the entire community to join us on Friday, May 9, for ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremonies, to be followed throughout the weekend by performances, demonstrations, games, guided tours and more to help visitors discover the many delights of the New Ridgefield Library."

Festivities will kick off with a Book Brigade, led by Maurice Sendak's Wild Thing, with a chain of people from the community "passing the last few books from the shelves of the temporary facility down the street and putting them in place on the shelves of the new building," a press release said.

Highlights will include the presentation of the Paccadolmi Awards for leadership and volunteer service and unveiling of the Wall of Donors and the Community Mural, each commemorating the generosity of many of the donors who have made this day possible.

A full schedule of Opening Weekend activities can be found at the New Ridgefield Library website.

Individuals, families and groups who wish to participate in the Book Brigade are asked to contact Assistant Director Mary Rindfleisch at 203-438-2282 ext. 1009 or mfrind@ridgefieldlibrary.org.
