The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced that the project is set to begin on Monday, July 10 and run through Oct. 9, 2018. The project consists of the construction of a modern traffic roundabout at the intersection of Route 110 (Shelton Road) and Route 11 (Monroe Turnpike).

The roundabout is intended to improve safety and congestion at the intersection, the DOT said. The project includes the reconstruction of Route 11 to reduce the grade of the road, the construction of a cul-de-sac on Hurd Avenue, and the installation of sidewalks connecting the intersection to the Monroe town center.

Segments of Routes 110 and 111 in Monroe will be impacted by the project. Regular work is scheduled to take place from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. Traffic control personnel and signing patters will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone.

Drivers should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions, the DOT said.

The contract for the project was awarded to Richards Corporation of Terryville, Conn. on May 30 for $4,099,707.
