RIDGEFIELD, Conn. - A weeklong heat wave and busy police work topped the week's news in Ridgefield:

The Ridgefield police charged three teens with possession of marijuana and a 17-year-old girl was charged with breach of peace for a July 3 altercation at a gas station.

Residents were encouraged to conserve energy and keep cool as a weeklong heat wave baked the town and the region. High temperatures and humidity combined to make it feel hotter than 100 degrees on many days. Many people sought refuge in official cooling centers .

With prices at the pump jumping nearly 20 cents nationally in the past week, drivers in Ridgefield are now facing gas prices among the highest in the nation. The average in the state is $4.01 per regular gallon, compared with the national average of $3.70, according to AAA.

Connecticut came in third in a study posted on CNBC.com that calculated the number of wage earners who make more than $343,000 per year, the top 1 percent of the U.S. population . The study found there are 1,345 Connecticut residents in that category, meaning one out of every 2,657 people has an "ultra-high net worth." Connecticut was third to Wyoming and New York.
