Freeze Watch Issued As Wind-Chill Factor Drops To Mid-20s In Ridgefield

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The calendar may say it's spring, but after portions of Fairfield County experienced hail, snow showers and snow flurries on Thursday, late April is feeling more like winter.

The wintry blast will return overnight into Saturday with wind chills in the mid-20s, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a freeze watch for Fairfield County from 1 to 9 a.m. Saturday morning.

The potentially subfreezing temperatures could damage or kill seasonal and sensitive plants that are left uncovered.

Below-average temperatures will continue Sunday with a high near 58, but wind chills will make it feel closer to mid-30s.

Sun will linger in the area for a while, but temperatures won't make it to the mid-60s until the middle of the week.
