Combat Military Veteran From Danbury Honored With An Array Of Medals

DANBURY, Conn. – Nearly 15 years after he served his country and was wounded during Operation Iraqi Freedom, a veteran from Danbury was awarded 16 medals for his military service.

The medals were presented to combat veteran Robert Carpenter, 42, by U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty (D-5th District) in a ceremony on the stage at the Danbury Green. Carpenter, in his uniform, was joined by his wife and grandchildren.

Carpenter joined the U.S. Army National Guard in 1996 and became an E5 Sergeant with the Active Guard Reserve in 2001. He served for 10 years as a Yankee Supply Sergeant and served in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In 2003, he was injured while serving oversees, which ended his military career.

On Saturday, Carpenter was presented with the following decorations:
