Stamford Thrills To Fireworks Under A Perfect Sky

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Thousands of people thrilled to a stunning display of fireworks in Stamford on Saturday night, after a two-day delay due to rainy weather putting a damper on the Independence Day celebrations.

The fireworks display had also been in the balance - due to the the constraints of the city's budget - until a month ago, when a number of local corporations stepped in with nearly $100,000 in donations to allow the show to go forward.

The approximately 25-minute fireworks show was held off Cummings Beach in Westcott Cove. Before the main event, fireworks were launched from private homes, giving the thousands in attendance an earlier taste of what was to come and an even longer evening out on the waterfront.

In the distance, fireworks at Greenwich Point could be seen just above the horizon.
