The event began at at 11 a.m. in front of The Toy Chest in downtown Ridgefield, passed by the Cass Gilbert Fountain and ended at Planet Pizza, with all walkers receiving pizza for their efforts.
SmileTrain provides free surgery for children all over the world affected by cleft.
Local resident Steven Christofor hosted the event, along with his daughter Isabel. The goal was to raise $1,250, which would cover the cost of helping five children with cleft. The final total ended up being $1,985, which can help seven children with cleft.
The walk was the culmination of a month of fundraising by the pair, which included fundraising events at the local Stop and Shop and notifying the local press.
Other local businesses and organizations that donated time and money included the Ridgefield Perfect Smile Center, Glass Guys Of Ridgefield, the UPS Store in Ridgefield, Squash's Office Supply, Touch Of Sedona and Trillium Architects.
