RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- Watershed Gallery and the Friends of the Ridgefield Library are teaming up to host a community art project on Oct. 19.

The groups are welcoming members of the public to attend one of two sessions to help create artwork from pages of discarded books, according to a press release. The artwork is set to be "mounted in a single art book, and then raffled off for the benefit of the New Ridgefield Library," according to the release.

“We wanted to thank Ridgefield for supporting us in our first year of operation, and to thank the library for being terrific neighbors,” said Jennifer Mathy, director of the gallery, according to the release. “The Friends of the Library have generously offered to contribute the books for this community project.”

The art sessions at 11 a.m. and 3 pm. on Oct. 19 will allow the public to paint, draw, collage and more using pages from discarded books, according to the release. Art supplies will be on hand, but the public is invited to "bring mementos or art supplies of their own to create," according to the release.

The community-created art book will be on display at Watershed Gallery until Nov. 10, when the winner of the raffle will be drawn.

Watershed Gallery also will host an Altered Book Workshop with artist Katie Stevenson from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 24.

For more information about the community art project, residents are asked to call 203.438.4387 or visit the Watershed Gallery website .
