The Connecticut Westchester Hudson Valley Chapter of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s event honors local blood cancer survivors and commemorates individuals who have lost their lives to these diseases.
When Zuccaro first became ill, he knew something was wrong when bruising appeared on his body that wouldn’t go away. After blood tests, he was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia, one month before his daughter was born.
His hospital stay was for two weeks. Zuccaro’s wife, Jennifer, stayed in the hospital those two weeks while they awaited the birth of their daughter, Natalie.
The staff at Danbury Hospital made accommodations for her so the two of them could be together through her last month of pregnancy.
After the birth of their daughter and eight months of treatment, Zuccaro was declared cancer-free and celebrated his one-year anniversary in January.
