RIDGEFIELD, Conn. - Ridgefield resident and Tony Award-winning actor and director Harvey Fierstein has only one day left until this year's Tony Awards are given out.
Fierstein is nominated for Best Book of a Musical for his work on "Kinky Boots." This is the seventh Tony nomination for Fierstein, who has won four times in four different categories since the premiere of his play "Torch Song Trilogies" in 1982.
The Broadway show "Kinky Boots" came out of its first season with 13 nominations, including Best Musical.
Stamford resident and Grammy Award-winning singer Cyndi Lauper was also nominated for her work on "Kinky Boots," in the category of Music and Lyrics of a Musical. This is her first Tony nomination.
According to the show's website , it is about a young man who has inherited his fathers failing shoe factory. To help find a new direction for the factory, he finds inspiration in performer Lola, who needs sturdy shoes for her performances. And together they find a way to help each other.
The Tony Awards will be broadcast Sunday, June 9, at 8 p.m. on CBS. They'll be hosted by Emmy Award-winning actor Neil Patrick Harris for the fourth time.
