RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- Take a leisurely fall hike with Ridgefield's Discovery Center to explore the abandoned Titicus Mica Quarry on Nov. 16 at 1 p.m.
The Titicus Quarry's mica mining was possibly begun in colonial times for mirrors, glass, decorations, jewelry, and many other uses. Mica, quartz, and feldspar are still present in abundance.
The hike starts from the cul-de-sac at end of Settler's Lane in the Barrack Hill Refuge. Click here for directions.
Admission is free for Discovery Center members, $7 for nonmembers.
Mica, quartz and feldspar fragments can be found around the old Titicus Mica Quarry on the site.
