The program will be launched in Ridgefield at the Have a Heart benefit on Sept. 27 at Double H Farm, 11 Old Stagecoach Road. Proceeds from the event will benefit several Kids in Crisis programs, such as SafeTalk, along with TeenTalk, which takes place at Ridgefield High School.
ids in Crisis SafeTalk is free, and it is being offered to local camps and schools, so that children in kindergarten through fifth grade can be educated on how to recognize danger and how to deal with it.
“Through SafeTalk, we empower children with the information they need in an age-appropriate, non-threatening way,” said Kristen Tommasiewicz, director of Community Services at Kids in Crisis and director of SafeTalk. “There is a parent and staff component to the program as well, so everyone is on the same page in terms of how to best handle what are all too real and often challenging situations.”
Mike Flynn, director of the Boys & Girls Club of Ridgefield agreed. “Partnering with Kids in Crisis for the SafeTalk program was truly a benefit to our members. Both organizations are passionate about keeping children safe and giving them the skills to navigate difficult situations.”
SafeTalk uses the Child Assault Prevention Program’s curriculum. It has been presented by Kids in Crisis since 1999. Last year, it was presented to 199 classrooms, reaching a total of 3,980 students.
