RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- The community is welcome to come experience Congregation Shir Shalom's special musical guest for Ruach Shabbat, Avram Pengas, on Friday, April 8.

Ruach Shabbat is a spirited musical service with guests to enhance the musical worship. Cantor Deborah Katchko-Gray has worked with Pengas for many years and is looking forward to this spirited and exciting service. He is a master guitarist and bouzouki player in the Greek/Middle Eastern tradition.

Together with his band the Noga Group -- "noga" means glow in Hebrew -- he plays to a regular crowd of Israelis, restaurateurs and the occasional bellydancer in downtown Manhattan. "He has released numerous albums, and his latest, 'Santorini,' pulsates with Greek and Turkish rhythms, Israeli pop, sinuous Arabic melodies, Latin beats and Armenian dance sounds -- all done up in a fresh, crisp production," a news release notes.

The service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Congregation Shir Shalom is located at 46 Peaceable St., in Ridgefield. For more information, call the office at 203-438-6589 or email
