RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- Wolfpit Running Club, Ridgefield Running Company and Ridgefield Library celebrated Global Running Day on Wednesday by offering a “Summer of Running” to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Ridgefield Half Marathon.
The Summer of Running kicks off with a 5K Training Program leading up to the Southwest Café Margarita 5K in August. This training program can also provide a runner with a solid base to continue to the Half Marathon Training Program. The Wolfpit Running Club has been hosting Pamby’s Ridgefield Half Marathon, a 13.1 mile race, since the mid-seventies.
“The Pamby Half Marathon is one of the most scenic races in Connecticut,” said Deb Povinelli, co-owner of Ridgefield Running Company and a past participant in the race. "It is a wonderful race that allows a runner new to the half marathon distance to train on the very roads that the race takes place.”
The race began in the mid-seventies as the Ridgefield Marathon (26.2 miles) and after several years became the half marathon race that it is today. Rick Favier, race director in conjunction with John Dugdale over the last 30-plus years, is excited to commemorate this 40th anniversary running, “We are planning to celebrate the run this year and excited to welcome all to come ‘Run with the Wolves,''' he said.
The Summer of Running offers a 6-week training program for the Southwest Café Margarita 5K Training Program, a kickoff party on June 21 at Ridgefield Running Company, half marathon training program information session, kick off parties for the 5k and half marathon training programs, and more.
A exhibit at the Ridgefield Library, The History of the Wolfpit Running Club and Pamby Ridgefield Half Marathon, helps celebrate the 40th anniversary of the race and includes racing flats from the first year to compare to the comfort shoes offered today.
