DANBURY, Conn. -- Despite our recent weather, spring is around the corner. To get you ready, we went to Beth HIll, a Danbury-based wellness coach and integrative nutrition health coach.
Here, some tips for getting you out of snow-mode and ready to jump-start the season:
- Spring Clean ... your kitchen cabinets and fridge: Commit to throwing out any food and beverage that has high-fructose corn syrup, corn oil, partially hydrogenated, etc. If you can't pronounce it-- toss it! In fact, aim to only keep products with less than five or six ingredients. This will be challenging at first, but pretty soon you will find yourself reading labels and opting for less processed foods and more natural whole foods.
- Veg Out: If you'd like to add more veggies to your diet but can't tell a kohlrabi from a jicama, spring is a great time to join a local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). Within weeks, you'll find your life filled with amazing, locally grown fruits and vegetables -- a great opportunity to try those gooseberries you've always been curious about.
- Re-think your Sunscreen: As the weather gets warmer, you'll be encouraged to slather on the skin protection...but do your research - many sunscreens contain far too many chemicals which actually may be doing you more harm than good. Check out the Environmental Working Group ; they have a great app you can download which allows you to scan the labels to find sunscreens with the least chemicals and the most protection.
