Bernard's, 20 West Lane, Ridgefield, (203) 438-8282
Why Go: Housed in a circa 1875 inn in historic Ridgefield, Bernard’s isn’t your run-of-the mill brunch spot. Chef Bernard Bouissou presides over the kitchen of this swanky, Zagat-rated eatery, while his wife, Sarah, manages the front of the house. The couple met while at Le Cirque in Manhattan. Locavores can rest easy because Bernard grows most of his own veggies and herbs in season. A piano player tickles the ivories on the weekends, much to the delight of diners.
Worth Waking Up For: The classic French cuisine on the brunch menu includes: carrot soup, a homemade smoked fish plate with salmon, trout, swordfish, and cod; frittata with tomato confit, caramelized onions, asparagus and goat cheese; duck casserole with duck egg; homemade basil linguine; sautéed shrimp with nicoise veggies; braised veal shoulder; and for dessert, a trio of crème brulees: vanilla, banana and apricot. Très yum.
When: Sundays, noon to 2:30 p.m.
Prix Fixe? Yes. $39 per person, but for children, items can be ordered a la carte.
