RIDGEFIELD, Conn. Its not just the Olympics this week, things are happening closer to home in and around Ridgefield. Here are some of the events for the week of July 30 to Aug. 2:
Monday, July 30
ZBA Meeting: 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The Zoning Board of Appeals is holding its regular meeting to discuss several home-land improvement projects. Town Hall Annex Public Meeting Room, 66 Prospect St.
KidsFest 2012: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. KidsFest 2012 will feature an array of family-friendly activities in Ballard Park, including Excalibur Castle, Turbo Rush Obstacle Course, Real Sports Fun and Boom Blaster Balloon competition. Additional activities include face-painting and martial arts demonstrations plus a cool animal exhibit from Woodcock Nature Center and more. Ballard Park, Main Street and Gilbert Street.
Ridgefield Playhouse Film Society Screening of "Leave:" 7:30 to 10 p.m. The film is about Henry Harper, a highly successful novelist who has it all. But after surviving a recent trauma, he finds himself haunted by a dream that terrifies him. Leave director Robert Celestino and Todd Sandler, his film editor, will participate in a Q&A after the Special Preview Screening. Ridgefield Playhouse, 80 E. Ridge Road.
Tuesday, July 31
Art Daze Part 1: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Children ages 4 to 6 are invited to go behind the scenes and create their own movie with artist Kimberly Kay. Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, 258 Main St.
Art Daze part 2: 1 to 5 p.m. Children ages 7 to 10 can create their own environmental mud art using clay, and then mix the clay with man-made and found objects from nature to transform your ideas into sculptures or objects of inspiration with artist Chakaia Booker. The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, 258 Main St.
The Fair Sex - A Play Reading: 7:30 to 10 p.m. The Ridgefield Theater Barn presents The Fair Sex, the next in its Play Reading Series, written and directed by Patti Azzara and produced by Marla Manning. The Ridgefield Theater Barn, 37 Halpin Lane .
Wednesday, Aug. 1
Cross Pond Swim: 11 a.m. to noon. Accomplished swimmers ages 17 and older are invited to take a swim down at Martin Park Beach. Work out by doing laps or just relax in the open water with friends. Martin Park Beach, 3 Great Pond Road.
Thursday, Aug. 2
Murder by the Book: 10 a.m. to noon. The Ridgefield Library mystery book club will next discuss Before Midnight" by Rex Stout. The book is about armchair detective Nero Wolfe, who relies on his wise-cracking assistant Archie Goodwin when hired to investigate a murder. Ridgefield Library, 472 Main St.
Summer Concert Series: 7 to 10 p.m. Hot Club of Cowtown is coming to perform at Ballard Park as a part of the CHIP summer concert in the park series. Ballard Park, Main Street and Gilbert Street.
Art Daze Screening: 11 a.m. to noon Friends and families are invited to a VIP premiere screening of the movie their children made earlier in the week. Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, 258 Main St.
