RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- The Ridgefield Playhouse will present Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" this weekend.

There will performances at 2 and 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, and at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 15.

"A holiday tradition that dazzles all ages, the beloved 'Nutcracker' is the perfect annual live theater family event in this festive season," representatives said in a release. "Tchaikovsky's soaring score, graceful ballerinas, dancing wooden soldiers and a bigger-than-life Christmas tree will make the holidays bright for young and old ... This is what dreams are made of: Sugar Plum Fairies, dancing Snowflakes, an Evil Mouse King and a beloved Nutcracker Prince presented by the Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance [RCD]."

The production is set to feature guest artist Brent Whitney in the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy’s Cavalier and he will dance the Grand Pas de Deux with Meredith Santoro, RCD dancer and Ridgefield High School senior, as the Sugar Plum Fairy.

The show is part of the Pepsi Children's Series ?and is underwritten by the Wooster School of Danbury ?and sponsored by Books on the Common with additional support from The Ridgefield Library and The Ridgefield Salon & Spa.

The Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance’s production features students Amanda Tully and Julia Assue who will perform the role of Clara for the first time. Herr Drosselmeyer will be danced by the performances co-director, Terence Duncan. First Selectman for the Town of Ridgefield Rudy Marconi will appear in the party scene and be joined by Ridgefield Conservatory faculty Amy Piantaggini and Maggie Gavin. The role of the Snow Queen will be danced by Emma Sandhu.
