RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- The Ridgefield Playhouse and 109 Cheese & Wine presents an evening of Art, Wine and Jazz with Spyro Gyra on Thursday at 8 p.m.
Spyro Gyra, the legendary jazz fusion band, created an original style that sounded like nothing that came before it. Spyro Gyra is the quintessential American jazz band whose '70s instrumental pop chart smash hits "Morning Dance" and “Shaker Song” helped it break through to mainstream music.
Performing for over 40 years and putting out more than 30 albums, the band has given more than 5,000 shows on five continents.
Before these jazz masters perform, enjoy complimentary wine tastings in the lobby at 7:15 p.m. with 109 Cheese & Wine and an art reception with Ridgefield artist Hans Fischer, courtesy of Rockwell Art & Framing. Hans Fischer’s paintings have been shown in many galleries and are in private collections in the U.S. and abroad.
The night starts with Jumaane Smith, celebrated trumpeter and vocalist, who has already done what most musicians spend their lives dreaming about. He’s traveled the world; and played at stages in historic clubs, in massive stadiums and at cultural landmarks; recorded a solo album; appeared on national television and performed for two sitting U.S. presidents. His collaborations range from pop idols to jazz legends.
He has worked with Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Michael Buble’, Jackie Evancho, Alicia Keys, The Jonas Brothers, Wyclef Jean, Justin Bieber, Diddy, Natalie Cole, James Ingram, Wynton Marsalis, Ravi Coltrane, Chris Botti and many more.
Before the show, visit Piccolo’s Pizza and Jazzeria for dinner and enjoy a complimentary glass of house wine with your entrée when tickets are presented.
For tickets ($40 orchestra, $35 balcony), call or visit the box office at The Ridgefield Playhouse, 203-438-5795.
