RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- The Ridgefield Playhouse will present “Candid Camera’s 8 Decades of Smiles! With Peter Funt" Friday, Dec. 2.
“Smile, you’re on Candid Camera!” For more than eight different decades, nearly everyone who watches TV can happily relate to that phrase. Now Peter Funt, the show’s host, brings it to life in a laugh-filled show featuring clips, quips and great fun, according to a release from the Ridgeifeld Playhouse.
Funt's hilarious stage comedy is blended with a behind-the-scenes peek at the show’s funniest moments, the release said.
Created by Peter’s father, Allen Funt, "Candid Camera" is the only entertainment program to have produced new episodes in each of the last eight decades – from Allen’s start on TV in August, 1948, through Peter’s acclaimed run on TV Land last year.
Using Candid Camera’s vast library, Funt showcases decades of fun and reveals what happened when the cameras weren’t rolling.
Several audience members will get a chance to join Funt onstage to answer candid trivia questions and win prizes. Joining in the live stage presentation will be Funt's son, Danny, and his niece, Katie, both of whom appeared in the TV Land version of "Candid Camera."
“This is not just a trip down memory lane,” Funt said. “It’s a funny, fast-paced commentary on our whacky world as seen through the Candid Camera.”
In addition to laugh-filled clips that span eight different decades, the Ridgefield show will feature several hilarious sequences shot at the world-famous Stew Leonard’s, which is a participating sponsor of both the Ridgefield and Tarrytown shows.
A performances in the region also is scheduled for Saturday Nov. 26 at the Music Hall in Tarrytown, N.Y.
In addition to hosting more than 200 episodes of Candid Camera, Funt writes a syndicated newspaper column and has appeared on many top talk shows. He currently is working on a new version of "Candid Camera" for 2017.
Friday's show begins at 7:30 p.m.
The Ridgefield Playhouse is at 80 E. Ridge Road, Ridgefield.
