“This show celebrates our second year in business and the many wonderful artists we’ve met along the way – from Britain and France, to Connecticut,” says Jennifer Mathy, director of Watershed Gallery. “We’re bringing in some new artists and a few old friends, which seems fitting for the holidays.”

Fused glass artist Debbie Lord uses bold color and simple shapes to express the unique tranquility of the Cornwall coast. Born and raised in Scotland, Lord fulfilled her desire to live by the sea when she moved to the English peninsula. Inspired by long walks through coastal villages, Lord’s happy and calming pieces convey her love of Cornish life.

Watercolor artist Martin Whittam tells stories in paint with his quirky and sometimes amusing scenes inspired by the people, buildings and streets of his home city, Manchester, England. Described as a modern Lowry, Whittam’s fascination for every aspect of watercolor and his deep affection for the North West of England result in cheerful works of art.

American mixed-media artist Sarah French will exhibit two bodies of work, both of which feature whimsical collaged birds. A painter, collage artist and writer from Rowayton, French has been practicing her art for more than 20 years. Her children’s book, Summer Friends, was inspired by her daily beach walks in Martha’s Vineyard with her dog, Minnie, and their encounters with a local seal.

Sculptor Pascale Beneteau lives and maintains a studio in Giverny, France, where she creates humorous, rotund animal sculptures from clay and bronze. A self-taught sculptor, Beneteau draws inspiration from her time living in South Africa, Denmark, India and Japan before returning to her native France. Fellow Frenchman Martin Lavergne, who works under the pseudonym of Moogly, uses recycled cardboard and mixed media to reinvent the art of portrait painting; his energetic works of art portray humans as fantastical and funny animals.

Finally, French abstract photographer Florence Notté will share work from her award-winning series “My Little Happiness.” The sepia-toned series shares stories of a life lived in Paris, Singapore, & Kyoto – and won first prize from the French Federation of Photography in 2012.

Watershed Gallery is located at 23 Governor St. in Ridgefield. The public is welcome to attend the opening reception Saturday evening. For more information on the “Small Wonders of the World” exhibit, visit www.watershedgallery.com or call 203-438-4387.
