Ridgefield Theater Hosts Martin Luther King Jr. Day Community Celebration

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn.. -- Still haven't made plans for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day? It's not too late. A host of events are going on Monday, Jan. 18, throughout Fairfield County. Please add any we've missed.

Danbury: St. James Episcopal Church in Danbury will host a "Night of Celebration" beginning at 6:30 p.m. The celebration will feature performances from Saint James Choir under the direction of Joanne Archibald, Wooster School’s Madrigals under the direction of Claire Simard, and EHT Fellowship Choir (of Hartford) under the direction of Tyrone Black. The event is free and open to the public. Greenwich: It's Family Fun Day at the Bruce Museum with free admission from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. An 11 a.m. performance is designed for families with kids ages 3 to 8, and includes an inspiring introduction to some of the most influential black Americans of the last 150 years. At 1 p.m., there's a show for those 8 and older celebrating the work and life of King in the context of the American Civil Rights Movement. Norwalk: Stepping Stones Museum for Children will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a special Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration at 11 a.m. Be moved by Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech on the big screen, then create your own dream mobile listing your hopes for yourself, your family, your school, your community and your world. Ridgefield: The 20th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration at The Ridgefield Playhouse includes a special performance by "The Voice’s" Luke Wade. The event, which begins at 3 p.m., is free, and also features performances by The Ridgefield Chorale, Deborah Katchko-Gray and the TSI Singers, Kimberly Wilson and members of A Better Chance Ridgefield. Wilton: The Wilton Historical Society is offering a storytime reading of "Martin’s Big Words: The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr." and a hands-on activity to celebrate his birthday – making "Birds of Peace." Bridgeport: The Beardsley Zoo is honoring the civil rights leader's life and achievements by offering $5 admission from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Celebrate King: 1875 Noble Ave., (203) 394-6563, www.beardsleyzoo.org/

Fairfield: A Memorial March will be held at 3:30 p.m. on the campus of Fairfield University as a way to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. and to raise awareness about social justice. All are welcome.
