Ridgefield Parks & Rec To Offer Water Safety Instructor Classes

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- The Ridgefield Parks & Recreation Department is offering a water safety instructor course for students ages 16 and older.

This American Red Cross certification course meets from Sept. 27 to Nov. 1. 

Classes are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays at Barlow Mountain pool, 115 Barlow Mountain Road. 

The curriculum covers teaching progressions, lesson planning, recognizing common skill errors and providing corrective feedback. 

Through video and hands-on skill building, the course features clearly described and applied teaching strategies. 

Upon successful completion of all activities and written exams, students will receive an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate. 

There is a physical pre-course skills test, which takes place in the pool and must be passed in order to take the course. 

The test is at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Recreation Center pool.
