Ridgefield Arts Council Presents Networking Event 'The Generator'

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- The Ridgefield Arts Council invites local artists and creative professionals to the next installment of “The Generator” on Monday, Feb. 9, at Watershed Gallery.

The networking event will feature three speakers sharing their thoughts on storytelling in the arts, and will be held at 7:30 p.m.

During the event, artists, writers and performers gather with the goal of learning, sharing and networking with others to enhance both their creative process and their careers.

The events are managed via the website Meetup.com and feature innovative speakers, arts demonstrations and presentations geared toward the creative community.

Bill Franzen, the author of "Hearing From Wayne and Other Stories" and a long-time contributor to The New Yorker will kick off the evening. Franzen has written for a variety of formats, most notably "A Prairie Home Companion" with Garrison Keeler.

Fabric artist Missy Stevens will discuss storytelling in the visual arts. Stevens’ thread paintings have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums throughout the United States, including the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art and the St. Louis Art Museum.

Finally, songwriter David Ray will discuss storytelling through folk music. A former New York City cab driver, bartender, bouncer and actor, Ray’s early Fast Folk recordings are now part of the permanent collection at the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage.

Following the brief presentations, members of The Generator will be encouraged to mix and mingle with presenters and each other.

Creative types who live in and around Ridgefield are welcome to attend. The cost of attending The Generator is $5 for pre-registration (via meetup.com/The-Generator-Ridgefield-CT) or $10 at the door, which covers the cost of wine Watershed Gallery is located at 23 Governor St., next to Bissell Pharmacy.
