Pick Up Favorites From Shelter Rock Winery At Country Club In Ridgefield

DANBURY, Conn. -- Members and friends gathered at the Shelter Rock Winery in Danbury for a Wines of the World Event, a blind wine event boasting 12 wine tastings from all over the world. 

Giovanni Petretta, Shelter Rock’s owner and wine master, said the first Wines of the World wine tasting event was a great success and looks forward to holding more in the future.

During the event last week, members were guided by Sommelier, Jeff Drucker of Max Wine & Spirits of Danbury, to taste each of the wines and rate them on their cards. All the while, participants enjoyed cuisine made by Gallucci Catering from Danbury and Luigi’s Pizzeria from Yonkers, and music from vocalist Lucio Marranzino.

Casa Petretta Cellars Wines won all three competitions. The wines tasted were Cabernet Sauvignon’s, Super Tuscans, Petite Syrah and Shiraz from around the world. The results are in:

1st Competition: 2009 Casa Petretta Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon (winner); 2013 Simi Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, California; 2009 Chateau La Cardonne, Bordeaux France, and 2009 Catena Cabernet, Sauvignon Argentina.

2nd Competition: 2009 Casa Petretta Cellars Petite Syrah (winner); 2011 Raats “Red Jasper” South Africa; 2011 Calicanto Red Blend Chile, and 2014 Michael David Petite Syrah.

3rd Competition: 2009 Casa Petretta Cellars Salute Super Tuscan Blend (winner); 2011 Brancala Tre Tuscany; 2013 Terlato-Capoutier Shiraz-Viognier Australia, and 2012 Eremus Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese Tuscany.
