Paddleboard And Kayak Lessons Highlight Ridgefield's Fitness At The Beach

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- The sport of paddleboarding is making people stand and take notice in Ridgefield.

The Ridgefield Parks and Recreation will host several water sports this summer, including paddleboard and kayak lessons at Martin Park Beach.

The Ridgefield Parks and Recreation is offering Fitness at the Beach paddleboard and kayak lessons this summer at Martin Park Beach, 19 Great Pond Road.

Certified teacher Elizabeth O’Connor of Changing Tides PaddleCraft will cover launching/landing, strokes and safety with tours and classes.

Paddleboard tours will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by kayak lesson from 2-4 p.m., on July 6 and 20, and Aug. 3, 17 and 31. Tours are open to ages 14-and-up and cost $83 for non-members per day and $53 for members.

Instructional kayak lessons will run from noon to 3 p.m., followed by paddleboard lessons from 3:30-6:30 p.m., on July 11 and 25 and Aug. 1 and 15. Cost is $108 per day for non-members and $78 for members.

The Ridgefield Parks and Recreation will also offer a Stand Up Paddle Yoga class for ages 18 and older. Paddle yoga combines balances, endurance and body strength, while aiming to restore physical, mental and spiritual harmony.

Session II takes place on Mondays from 10:30-11:45 a.m. between June 22 and July 27, with no classes on July 6 and July 20. Tuesday classes run from 5-6:15 p.m. from July 14 to Aug. 4. Cost is $163 for non-members and $133 for members.

The parks and recreation will offer a Cross Pond Swim for accomplished swimmers ages 17 and older. From 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays and 5-6 p.m. on Sundays between June 28 and Aug. 16 at the Martin Park Beach boat launch area, swimmers can practice triathlon swimming in the open water.
