RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- The world-renowned, multi-Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Bebel Gilberto will heat up February with her blend of warm Brazilian rhythms and vocals with her performance Thursday, Feb. 11 at the Ridgefield Playhouse.

Gilberto will transport fans to Brazil, with bright, incandescent bossa nova-infused melodies, lyrics about love, and a lilting performance style that has earned her a devoted fan base worldwide.

Gilberto was born in New York to Brazilian music icons João Gilberto and Miúcha. Her musical education was her childhood in Brazil, where she was surrounded by extended family, including her uncle Chico Buarque, and family friends like Milton Nacimento, Tom Jobim, Caetano Veloso and João Donato.

Bebel’s life-long eclectic musical tastes are made palpable when listening to her most recent album, "Tudo." In addition to living and breathing all types of Brazilian musical styles as a child, she was exposed to the greats, from Debussy to Prince, Michel Legrand to Billie Holliday, Bjork to Gershwin. Her love for North American soul is obvious.

Several years after Bebel moved to New York City in 1991, her present-day sound of electronic-meets-Brazilian began to crystallize.

"Little by little, I learned what I wanted musically," Bebel said.

She established a weekly gig at The Greatest Bar on Earth, on top of the Worldtrade Center in the early 1990s that drew a fervent international crowd. "At that gig, everything started to come together," Bebel said. "I think there I became a New Yorker -- with a Brazilian heart of course."

Before this festive evening of Latin rhythms, visit Babaloo Cocina Latina, 991 Danbury Road, Wilton, for dinner the night of the show. Enjoy a complimentary taco when you present your tickets.

The event kicks off at 6:45 p.m. in the lobby with a complimentary wine tasting, courtesy of Palm Bay International. The concert begins at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $48; click here or call the box office at 203-438-5795.

The Ridgefield Playhouse is a nonprofit performing arts center at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main Street.
