The Cultural Alliance received an additional $3,185 in contributions through supporters who called in their donations on Fairfield County’s Community Foundation Giving Day, March 5, which raised more than $1 million for Fairfield County nonprofit organizations.

Grants from Office of the Arts are primarily to help the Cultural Alliance’s efforts to promote and support art, history, and cultural assets in the region, including providing tens of thousands of people with a comprehensive regional calendar of events on ArtsWesternct.org; encourage arts based place-making; and offering opportunities for exhibitions, meetings, workshops, networking, and performances at @287 Gallery and Meeting Place.

In addition, the Cultural Alliance is to administer a new Regional Initiative Small Grant Program, for its service area – Danbury, Bethel, Bridgewater, Brookfield, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown, Redding, Ridgefield, and Sherman. This grant program was created by COA to invest in arts-based cultural projects, activities and infrastructure in ways that will advance the attractiveness and competitiveness of Connecticut cities, towns, and villages as meaningful communities in which to live, work, learn and play.

The Cultural Alliance will host an informal information session to the initiative on Wednesday, March 25, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., @287 Gallery & Meeting Place, the Cultural Alliance's home at 287 Main St., Danbury. Western Connecticut cultural organizations, historical societies, artists, libraries, schools, municipalities, and venues that present arts programming are encouraged to attend. Space is limited.
