Join the RSO on Saturday, May 16th, 8:00 pm, Ridgefield High School, in a performance of the Ninth Symphony as the perfect ending to year of world-class music during this, the orchestra’s Golden Anniversary Season.
It is ironic that what is now best-known and popular about the Ninth Symphony is what was most unfamiliar to audiences when the symphony was premiered to great acclaim in 1824. Vocalists appear for the first time in a symphony in Beethoven’s Ninth, and in great numbers- four soloists and chorus appear in the finale. Who doesn’t know the rousing melody sung to the words of the poem Ode to Joy? With over 150 singers and musicians onstage, it truly will be a “joyous” and historic finale to fifty years of music for the RSO on May 16th!
Also on the program is music by a contemporary of Beethoven, Franz Schubert- Ballet Music to Rosamunde. And as a special treat, the audience is invited to a celebratory anniversary post-concert reception.
One of the immortal masterpieces of music, in a world-class performance by your RSO under the baton of Maestro Jerry Steichen… and a post-concert reception celebrating five decades of music. It all adds up to an evening you won't want to miss! Tickets begin at only $25, $20 for seniors, $15 for students, and are available online at www.ridgefieldsymphony.org or by calling the RSO Box Office at 203-438-3889.
