Beatles Music Festival At Ives Marks 50th Anniversary Of Shea Concert

DANBURY, Conn. -- Beatlemania will take over for Danbury Fields Forever: The Fab 4 Music Festival at Ives Concert Park on Aug. 15.

The festival takes place on the 50th anniversary of The Beatles' first concert at Shea Stadium. Producers of the festival are dedicating the event to the memories of Shea concert producer Sid Bernstein and Dennis Ferrante, an engineer of John Lennon. 

The following artists will perform at the festival:

  • The Hofners - Shea Stadium show, 7 p.m.
  • The Blue Meanies - "HELP" and 1965 songs, 6:15 p.m.
  • Penny Lane - "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" era songs, 5:30 p.m.
  • The Oh Nos - 4:45 p.m.
  • NumberNine - 4 p.m.
  • The Navels - 3:15 p.m.
  • AfterFab - The Beatles' solo years, 2:30 p.m.
  • Eric Herbst Dizzyfish - 2 p.m.
  • Nekita Waller - 1:45 p.m. 
  • Strictly Beatles (formerly BeatleHead) - 1 p.m.
  • School of Rock - 12:15 p.m.

Special guests include guitarist Hilton Valentine of The Animals and authors Candy Leonard ("Beatleness"), Vika Winters ("The Little Girl From Yesterday"), Jere Hester ("Raising a Beatle Baby") and Fred Velez ("A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You"). Event emcees are Ken Michaels ("Every Little Thing" and "Things We Said Today" radio shows, and WNHU-FM) and Gary Theroux (RewoundRadio.com, "The History of Rock & Roll").

Comedian Benjy Greenberg will impersonate Ed Sullivan to recreate the famous television introduction of The Beatles.

Gates open at noon, and the festival ends at 8 p.m.
