He was with his 13-year-old daughter Alie at the Haunting at the Hollow in New Fairfield. There they learned all about the legend of the fictitious Clayton family, who mysteriously vanished a century ago.
"They did a really good job," said Brundage. "There was a couple of times where I was really freaked out. It is very creepy, the characters are very realistic.
"Alie had me walk in front of her so she felt protected — but I wasn't protected," Brundage said, adding that there was even clown section on the trail.
Haunting at the Hollow will again take place this Friday, Oct. 27, and Saturday, Oct. 28.
The adventure begins at the New Fairfield Senior Center at 33 Route 37. Participants park there and are transported by shuttle buses, which run continuously from 7 to 9 p.m., to Haunting at the Hollow, which is on a meadow on the 800-acre Great Hollow Nature Preserve & Ecological Research Center.
Timed, nonrefundable tickets are $13. They can be purchased at the New Fairfield Parks and Recreation website or by calling 203-312-5633. Tickets cost $18 at the door.
Jane Stagnow, program coordinator at New Fairfield Parks and Recreation, said Haunting at the Hollow is a three-way partnership among the New Fairfield Parks and Recreation, BY Night Productions and Great Hollow Preserve.
When the bus arrives, participants are met by a ghoul, who leads them along a trail. During the quarter-mile walk, the ghoul fills everyone in on the Clayton family mystery.
While participants follow the trail, they walk past many spooky props such as a wood-chopping blacksmith, a spider hallway and a cemetery -- as they quickly learn they are not too welcome on the property.
Haunting at the Hollow is recommended for children over 13. Children who are 13 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult. Those with medical conditions, are advised that there are strobe lights, loud sounds and fog machines.
Walk-in tickets are available for purchase on-site for the nights of Friday, Oct. 28 and Saturday, Oct. 29 at the New Fairfield Community Room, 33 Route 37, New Fairfield for $18 per person, cash accepted.
For timed tickets, arrive 30 minutes early for pickup in the Community Room at the New Fairfield Senior Center.
