The goal is raising $1 million for 400 local nonprofits, all in just 24 hours via online donations, at FCGives.org. Everyone is encouraged to participate in Giving Day—families, friends, businesses, employee groups, clubs and individuals. During the 24 hours of Thursday, March 5, you can search for favorite local nonprofits and causes (such as education, animal welfare, stopping hunger) and donate online. Even gifts as small as $10 can make a difference, which is a perfect way for kids to give back. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help the 400 participating nonprofits compete for 30 cash prizes, ranging from $500 to $25,000.

These additional awards are funded by lead sponsor Bank of America, sponsoring businesses, other institutions and individual donors. National research conducted in 2014 by the Nonprofit Finance Fund found 78 percent of Connecticut nonprofits saw a significant increase in demand for their services in 2013 yet, due to reduced contributions, 57 percent were unable to meet that demand. Giving Day was inaugurated last year by Fairfield County’s Community Foundation with lead sponsor Bank of America. Thanks to the generosity of individuals, families, businesses and groups, a very welcome $750,000 was donated to Fairfield County nonprofits.

“A jump to one million dollars this year would be tremendous,” said Juanita James, president and CEO of Fairfield County’s Community Foundation. “Giving Day is a fun and easy way to involve families, friends, colleagues and businesses in giving back to their community.” Individuals, businesses and organizations interested in sponsoring Giving Day or learning more may visit FCGives.org
