“We tried to create a fundraiser that would help businesses in addition to having people a good time,” said Billy Wyman, president of the Ridgefield Rotary Club. The money raised will go to its scholarship funds and nonprofit grants, he said.
Ridgefield has been known as a “good eating town,” Wyman said, which is why the Rotary decided uses food and drink establishments in town. “This gives the restaurants an opportunity to meet with 600 new clients."
Two sittings will be held, with a cap of about 300 people per two-hour session. “It does get a little crowded,” Wyman said. But “no one stays for the full two hours.”
This year, 31 establishments are participating. The event highlights newer businesses while also keeping some steady favorites, Wyman said. Some of the restaurants participating are Bartolo’s Ristorante, Southwest Café, the Cake Box and Liberta’s Spirit Shoppee.
The restaurants are spread across two floors of the Community Center, and they encourage visitors to start upstairs and work their way down, Wyman said.
“We get almost everybody in town to participate,” he said. “By and large, we get all the new restaurants and frequently a successful restaurant will say that the taste helped.”
As in the past, music will be performed by students from Ridgefield High School, Wyman said.
The taste will occupy the Ridgefield Community Center on Sunday, Jan. 27, for sittings at 12:30 and 4 p.m. To purchase tickets costing $40 for adults and $20 for children, go to the Rotary Club website. Tickets are $45 for adults at the door.
