The new tapas bar, with an emphasis on street food (albeit in an upscale fashion), is meant to be a casual and affordable eatery where folks can dig into Italian tapas, brick oven pizza, wine, craft beer, gelato and more.

According to the website, "Barra" in Italian means bar.

Set amidst a sophisticated backdrop, the restaurant offers a whimsical and creative menu. Among the options: Arancini Di Roso, classic Sicilian rice ball, Arborio rice, hand pulled mozzarella and Bolognese, Italian Fondua for two, Barra balls, the restaurant's famous fried meatballs, meaty sandwiches -- called "San 'G' wiches," choose your macaroni (basically build your own sauces with pasta), and a host of Barra pizzas defined by a thin, crispy bottom, rounded with a light airy crust, topped with house pulled mozzarella and an authentic San Marzano tomato sauce.

The restaurant officially opened Tuesday, Nov. 7 and is located at 389 Bridgeport Ave., 203- 513-2598, www.barrashelton.com/.
