Mr. Handyman Adds Full Range Of Services To Remodeling Projects

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Mr. Handyman of Upper Fairfield County added interior designers Linda DeSilva and Noreen Von Brauchitsch to its team last year. Now, they are helping the home remodeling company transform the industry.

Mr. Handyman’s remodeling projects now include a full-service team that handles the project from A to Z. The business is also using the latest technology trends, such as 3D views of the project, to show clients exactly how the renovated rooms will appear upon completing.

“We’ve had many clients ask for more detailed service,’’ DeSilva said. “Now we’re able to have interior design for adjacent rooms. We really are a one-stop shop.”

The process begins with a team that includes a lead technician and field supervisor. Clients also meet with interior designers before the project begins. “We’ll talk about the vision is for the client,’’ DeSilva said. “For a kitchen, we’ll provide a layout of cabinetry, furniture and appliances, and then provide a 3D layout.”

After the initial meeting, Mr. Handyman employees take clients to showrooms. “They are our partners and are tried and true in the industry,’’ DeSilva said. “They’ll be able to bring samples home.”

DeSilva said owner Skip Wyatt, a former marketing executive at IBM, has brought a lot of the principles from his former business to Mr. Handyman. “Every proposal is very detailed,’’ she said. “Clients know exactly what they will spend on labor, countertops, appliances and even the Dumpster. They’ll get a timeline on when it will start, what the payments will be, and a projected finish date. That can be a moving target if something unexpectd comes up. The client gets a consistent work flow. And if there’s a problem, clients can call the office. The project is of the utmost performance.”

Testimonials on the Mr. Handyman website offer prospective clients time lapse views of projects. Mr. Handyman has a 99 percent customer satisfaction rating.

“Most of the business comes from repeat clients,’’ DeSilva said. “People have had us do kitchens and then bring us back to do the family room. A lot of times people have contractors do work and then they never see them again. They’ll call us back. For most people, it’s been a wonderful venture working with Mr. Handyman.”
